Mihai Milea
Founder & Chief Investment Officer
After growing up under Communism, playing football, singing in a heavy metal band, almost being ordained as a priest, and , allegedly, stealing a few wives, a career in quantitative finance feels, as Charles Aznavour would say, like a quiet song.
I have spent over two decades building systematic trading strategies across global markets. Equities in Europe, the US, Asia and Latin America. ETFs, FX, crypto, futures. Most people pick one market and master it. I have always been too curious to stop at one. Diversification is not just a portfolio principle, it is a world-view. Divide and Impera. The Romans knew what they were doing.
I am not the best trader in the world. I will tell you that myself before anyone else gets the chance. What I am is original and in a world full of crowded factors and recycled alphas, that turns out to matter more than it should. My risk management, on the other hand, is genuinely exceptional. That is the one sentence I will say without irony.
My background is unusual by finance standards: PhD-level mathematics, an MBA in Marketing, an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and because apparently I do not sleep , degrees currently in progress in both Law and Theology. The mathematics taught me how markets work. The AI taught me how to scale it. The Law taught me what I cannot do. The Theology is still processing the drawdowns.
When I am not running the system: medium format film photography in inconvenient locations, coaching Romanian kids through Olympiad mathematics, and reading things that will never appear on a Bloomberg terminal.
I am always curious. That is the one trait that has survived everything else.
